Presentazione
Biological Sciences is a three-year degree course structured into two curricula, a 'Biomolecular Curriculum' and a 'Marine Curriculum'.
The course aims to train graduates with solid basic knowledge in the various sectors of Biology supported by characterizing knowledge in the specific areas defined by the two curricula. The course also provides adequate skills in the most advanced experimental investigation methodologies and technologies essential for the understanding and analysis of biological phenomena.
The organization into two curricula offers students the opportunity to better orient themselves in the choice of the Master's Degree Course. The theoretical knowledge and technical skills acquired will allow them to continue their career in various fields of biology, such as molecular and applied biology, nutritional biology, marine biology and environmental biology.
- In order to achieve the training objectives, the Degree Course in Biological Sciences includes
-
- Basic training activities aimed at acquiring knowledge in the various areas of biology, relating to the structure and physiology of living organisms, the biology of the different groups of eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms and their functional aspects, the mechanisms of heredity and development, the interactions between organisms and between organisms and the environment and the processes of biological evolution.
- Specific training activities in the areas defined by the two curricula.
- Activities aimed at acquiring technical and experimental skills relating to the individual disciplines. Each course includes laboratory and/or field activities, which offer the student the opportunity to apply their knowledge to the design and execution of analytical and experimental techniques useful both in research and in monitoring and control approaches to be applied to the environmental, health and production process levels.
- External activities such as training internships at institutions and companies that allow students to verify and put into practice the knowledge acquired by offering them the opportunity to come in contact with the different aspects of the world of work
-Study and internship activities at foreign universities through the various Erasmus programs
-Training activities aimed at acquiring English language skills equivalent to level B1. - Role in a work context
-
Application and execution of biochemical, biomolecular, cytological genetic, microbiological and marine biology protocols in medical, food and environmental analysis laboratories and technical-experimental procedures in life sciences research laboratories. Organization and execution of sampling. Development and execution of specific biological tests within research and development teams.
- Skills associated to the role
-
Knowledge in the different areas of biology (botany, ecology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, zoology, marine biology) including the ability to perform analytical and experimental procedures, as well as sample collection and treatment.
- Istat professions
-
1. Biochemical laboratory technicians - (3.2.2.3.1)
2. Food product technicians - (3.2.2.3.2)
3. Veterinary laboratory technicians - (3.2.2.3.3) - Career prospects

The Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences aims to provide graduates with the professional profiles of the technical professions of health and life sciences as per the ISTAT classification of professions, providing the skills to access the qualification of Junior Biologist. The expected career opportunities include access to public and private biological and environmental analysis facilities (analysis laboratories, regional agencies for environmental protection); to food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries (research and quality control sector); to public and private basic research facilities (University, C.N.R.); to the sectors of consultancy, dissemination and propaganda, in the field of Biology, of both public and private facilities. The three-year degree prepares for the continuation of studies in Master's Degrees pertaining to the Biology class.
